Circa 1810-1820
An appealing tilt top candlestand with an old mellow surface, circa 1810-1820 attributed to the piedmont region of Virginia. The carved, recessed top is outlined by two rows of beading inside the rounded edge. The top surfaces of the legs and the vase portion of the base are well-carved with stylized acanthus leaves and there are ring turnings above on the pedestal. The table tilts with a simple latch. The original hammered iron spider secures the tripod base.
