This well built chest was constructed with heavy stock yellow pine framing, drawer sides and bottoms. The walnut case with molded top is dovetail top and bottom with exceptional flared bracket feet which lend lift and a bit of style. The brasses are original and the chest retains a very appealing, mellow old finish. This chest of drawers has a family history in Cumberland County, Virginia and exhibits the construction and stylistic characteristic of well made Virginia Piedmont case furniture. MESDA researchers recorded a chest from nearby Orange County with the same flared foot and other similarities indicating that the two were made in the same shop. Repairs to rear feet and blocking.
