RARE ENGLISH GEORGE II BRASS TAVERN COFFEE POT, tapered form flared at the base, side-mount ebonized turned-wood handle, the mounting plate in the form of a heart, gooseneck spout, stepped low-dome lid with finial, concave under the base. Circa 1750. 8″ HOA, 5 1/2″ D base.
Literature: Closely parallels Gentle/Feild – Domestic Metalwork 1640-1820, p. 276, fig. 14, where they note the form is “usually made in copper and very rare in brass.”
Condition
Good overall condition, handle with wear to surface and slightly loose, hinge area with wear, some light dents to base edge.
