Pitcher – One Half Gallon
Salt Glazed Stoneware
Cobalt decoration
B. C. Milburn – Marked on spout
Wilkes Street Pottery
Alexandria, VA
C. 1845
7.5″ H, 5″ Dia. base
This pitcher is quite rare in terms of its size, only 1/2 gallon, and its “fleur-de-lis” brushed cobalt decoration that is unique. Described by Eddie Wilder as “magnificent”, it is the only example known to have been made by Milburn with this decoration and use of this design is not known among other Alexandria potteries.
