Attribution of this finely crafted small card table posses challenges as it does not fit neatly into any clearly identifiable group. The most distinctive elements are the finely pierced and carved corner brackets – front and sides; the applied molded block feet, and the decorative astragal molding between (but not over) the table legs. The most compelling comparable is a book press on stand in the Mariner Collection at MESDA (acc. 5813.68 ) that has many of the same stylistic elements – hence the eastern Virginia attribution.
