Louisa was listed along with her family in the 1850 census as residents of Nottoway County, Virginia. The namesake of her grandmother Louisa Catherine Jones of Walnut Hill, she died at the age of 21. According to family history, her sister Mary Elizabeth was charged with caring for the sampler after Louisa’s death and backed it with pieces of colorful old silk to ensure its survival which have been retained. Until 2013 the sampler remained in the family.
This sampler survives in fine condition with excellent color.
