Silver Cann
Baltimore, Maryland
Marked: A(ndrew) E(llicott) Warner (1786-1870)
Circa 1822
3.75″ H 3.35″ Diameter at Base
The finely formed and decorated handle set this reeded cann (or mug) apart. Made by Warner during the assay period as indicated by the markings on the base, it is a fine example of this important Baltimore silversmiths work. With the notable exception of our example’s elaborately engraved handle, It closely resembles a cann by Warner in the Collection of the Baltimore Museum of Art (33.54.34). Andrew Ellicott Warner was the son of clockmaker Cuthbert Warner and the brother of silversmith Thomas Warner.
