Walnut
Inlaid with Carved Fans
Virginia – Probably Piedmont

26.75″ W x 20.25″ D x 28″ H
This small writing table is extensively yet subtly fitted out. The top is trimmed with a simple molding on the sides and front with a more complex molding on the underside at the frame. The waist is trimmed with a simple astragal molding. Most strikingly, the fans at the corners of the string inlaid drawer are carved. The combination of stylistic features, form and tapered legs suggest a late 18th or very early 19th century date of origin.
