More than any other of Schely’s views recorded by MESDA, the perspective of this view of a Stone Barn lends it a distinctly modern feel. At one time George studied art in Baltimore under Rembrandt Peale but apparently chose the bar over art as a career. In 1839 George Schley married Mary Sophia Hall. He was a member of the Hagerstown, Maryland bar; member of Congress, and a member of the Maryland legislature. A portrait of Schley by Sarah Miriam Peale is in a private collection.
