Bust
“J T HEATH SR” carved on a rectangular carved base
Carved Wood
Unknown Artist
Probably central Atlantic States
Circa 1850

The “curtain” style beard and style of suit and tie date this bust to mid 19th century. It was acquired years ago at Northeast Auction with a Charles Sterling, Philadelphia dealer and collector provenance and a recovery history in Delaware. Heath was identified only as a sea Captain. Research thus far had not linked the bust to a specific individual but continues.

The bust is in good condition with some regluing and minor losses, mainly where the carved elements were  originally joined and pegged. There are traces of an earlier coat of gold paint long since removed.
